I dropped the only non-biological identity that I never needed: Muslim. Religion is an identity into which we're socialized. But of course, in Islam, the belief is that everyone is born a Muslim.

Before I started questioning Islam, my identities were: South Asian Muslim, American, Immigrant, Woman, Heterosexual/Cisgender Bigot

Once I started questioning Islam and reclaiming my ethnicity, gender and history, my identities were: South Asian, Woman, Immigrant, Muslim?, American, Heterosexual/Cisgender who acknowledged human diversity and rights, and met/became friends with LGBTQ+.

After I left Islam, its man-made system for (cis/het) men and its imaginary sky baba (who only spoke to an arab man in Arabic?!), my identities were: Woman, South Asian, Immigrant, Hetero/Cis/LGBTQ+ Ally, American, and Definitely Not-Muslim

After I realized I'm part of a global community of diverse people who also left Islam, my identities are: Woman, ExMuslim, Hetero/Cis/LGBTQ+ Advocate, South Asian, Immigrant, American
