We learn about our periods from our Muslim moms, sisters or female relatives and it’s rarely ever about our menstrual health, access to menstrual products or an OBGYN, how the period affects our behaviors, emotions and desires every month, why we should track our cycles or how it’s a vital health sign. Instead, we learn about how Islam just sees menstruating women as dirty, impure, undesirable and not good enough for God/men.

Two more rulings on menstruation not included in my doodles: Apparently men can’t divorce women when they have their period. And, some Muslims also don’t allow women to visit mosques. 🙄🤷🏽‍♀️

Quran | Al-Baqarah (The Cow) 2:222

Sahih International: And they ask you about menstruation. Say, "It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves."
