Just because we discontinue our membership to Islam and publicly leave a 1-star review? 

Please stop the apostophobia instead of hurting and harming people. 

And stop using the word “Islamophobia” too. It’s a modern-day, veiled blasphemy law that gets used within the Muslim community to silence ExMuslims and anyone who dares to doubt and abandon Islam. 

Why be a bigot to ExMuslims while experiencing anti-Muslim bigotry? 

August 22 isn’t Apostasy Day. It’s “Your Right to Leave Islam (or any religion) and Talk About it Publicly” day.

Islam may not have been the only religion in our history whose political system punished apostasy (and/or blasphemy). But today, Islam remains as a major world religion whose shariah-backed apostasy (and blasphemy) laws continue to take people’s freedoms, lives and voices.

More than half a billion people live under governments where leaving Islam can carry legal punishment. They live in the following 14 countries that still outlaw apostasy with prison or death because of Islam: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Brunei, Comoros, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and Yemen (Info from Humanists International report)

Beyond these 14, we ExMuslims experience apostasy (and blasphemy) rules and expectations along with apostophobia in our homes and communities too.

How TF is it 2026 and we are still not safe to leave Islam or talk about leaving without hate, policing, gaslighting, prejudice, discrimination, criminalization, persecution, violence, repercussions, consequences, shunning and retaliation? And that too from our own Muslim families, friends, neighbors, coworkers and leaders?

Apostasy is a human right. Not a crime.

A man’s awrah is roughly a pair of Bermuda shorts, while a woman’s awrah is her entire body, and that’s the way uh huh uh huh Allah likes it???

And we don’t even get a choice or say in criticizing, changing or challenging this 1400 year old mansplaining of our existence?

I felt sick to my stomach learning about the Islamic concept of awrah, and how incredibly sad it was that #Hislam, its doctrine and leaders have been teaching Muslims to view the whole entire female body, from head to toe, as nakedness, as something we should be ashamed of and hide to not tempt men.

Like as if we’re not even humans, but objects made from and for men, meant to serve, obey, please, and care more about god and men than ourselves?

What do you even mean I have to cover myself because any part of my body, even my voice, makes men horny, gives them bners, makes them jrk off, makes them assault me, makes them grape me, so it’s my fault I exist as a woman?

What do you mean my body is a source of sin, shame and sexual chaos so I have to hide behind clothing?

What do you mean girls and women should feel guilty for existing in their bodies?

What do you mean I’m responsible for male self-control and my body is a danger to men’s purity?

Islam has basically given Muslims, obviously men, the power to shame, harm and hide 50% of the population with 100% misogyny, sexism and purity culture. But it’s not protection or for safety reasons. It’s objectification and sexualization of girls’ and women’s bodies sold as 7th century man-made morality.

What was once created as a way for men to identify Muslim, non-Muslim and enslaved women by the men creating Islam on the fly, has now become suffocating, unequal gender-biased norms within Islam. Women continue to be taught to become ummah incubators, subjugated with Islamic purity, shaming and modesty rules, and then we’re blamed for being women, while making men feel special and entitled about being born with a gun in their pants.

Wtf kind of misogynist logic is that? This is certainly not my choice.

Nobody has said anything at all which is great but always having to explain myself as to my differences in my videos is tiring , then one day I saw a post from a mutual and she was talking about being ND and an exmuslim and I got lit up inside with happiness. We finally got a chance to connect and chat and it felt so natural and affirming - it’s great to have that understanding and solidarity what we lost with Islam can be rebuilt. ExMuslims leave Islam based on evidence from verified Muslim sources like the Quran, Hadith, Tafsir and Islamic history.

And, because our values of freedom, curiosity, care, empathy, equity, justice, progress and fairness replace the old school Islamic values of authority, violence, subjugation, control, obedience and supremacy created by 7th century men.

We aren't just forced to believe in Islam, we end up experiencing the harms of Islam too. Even after providing a mountain of evidence, Muslims will gaslight us into thinking we don't know what we're talking about. But we know. That's why we leave Islam.

When Moroccan feminist and human rights activist Ibtissame Betty Lachgar defended freedom and posted a photo of herself on X wearing an Allah is Lesbian t-shirt…

She was first bombarded online with violent, death and rape threats.

Then she was arrested, fined and imprisoned for 30 months in Morocco for “insulting Islam”… A ridiculous blasphemy charge made possible by the religious and their fragility.

You’d think we were talking about ancient times but this literally happened 2-3 months ago.

I had just met Betty earlier this year for an event, in a secular country where she was freely wearing that same exact t-shirt.

1 in 4 Muslims have left Islam.

According to Pew Research:
“About a quarter of adults who were raised Muslim (23%) no longer identify as members of the faith, roughly on par with the share of Americans who were raised Christian and no longer identify with Christianity (22%), according to a new analysis of the 2014 Religious Landscape Study. But while the share of American Muslim adults who are converts to Islam also is about one-quarter (23%), a much smaller share of current Christians (6%) are converts.

In other words, Christianity as a whole loses more people than it gains from religious switching (conversions in both directions) in the U.S., while the net effect on Islam in America is a wash.

A 2017 Pew Research Center survey of U.S. Muslims, using slightly different questions than the 2014 survey, found a similar estimate (24%) of the share of those who were raised Muslim but have left Islam.

Among this group, 55% no longer identify with any religion, according to the 2017 survey. Fewer identify as Christian (22%), and an additional one-in-five (21%) identify with a wide variety of smaller groups, including faiths such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, or as generally “spiritual.”
